Fall flowers are the easiest way to mark the season, whether you need a Thanksgiving host gift or a Halloween centerpiece.
Thanksgiving is Monday, October 12, and Halloween is Saturday, October 31. Langdon's Flowers is a family-owned Ottawa florist, and delivery is free on online orders.
This guide covers what to choose for each occasion, what to avoid and how to order.
Why Fall Flowers Work
Fall gives florists their richest palette: gold, rust, burgundy, plum and deep orange. These colours suit a dinner table, a mantel or an entry, and they look intentional without extra decor. Flowers also last past the event, which a bottle or a bag of candy does not.
Thanksgiving Flowers: What to Bring and Send
What Makes a Good Host Gift
A good Thanksgiving gift does not add work. The host is already managing the kitchen, the guests and the timing. Your gift should be ready to display the moment it arrives.
- Choose an arrangement in its own vase or basket. A loose bouquet forces the host to find a vase and trim stems mid-prep.
- Keep it compact. A tall design blocks conversation across the table.
- Pick a mild scent. Strong fragrance competes with the food.
- Match the season. Warm gold, rust and burgundy tones suit the holiday.

Plants and Gift Pairings
A plant lasts through winter and suits a host who prefers something long-lasting.
A gift basket or chocolate pairing gives the host something to share at the table.
Sending Flowers When You Cannot Attend
You may be travelling, hosting your own dinner or thanking someone from a distance. Delivered flowers arrive on the day, with your message, and the recipient does nothing. Thanksgiving is also a natural moment to thank clients and colleagues.
Halloween Flowers: Ideas for Parties, Homes and Gifts
Deep, Moody Colours
Burgundy, plum, chocolate and near-black tones give a dramatic Halloween look without being obvious. These work on a party table, a mantel or an entry.
Orange Against Dark Foliage
Orange blooms with deep green or dark foliage create the classic Halloween palette with real flowers. Tell us your colour scheme when you order, and we will design to it.
Pumpkin-Inspired Designs
Pumpkins signal the season right away. Look for designs with pumpkin tones or accents, such as pumpkin arrangements. They suit hosts, neighbours, clients and friends.
Halloween Party Tips
- Keep centerpieces low so guests can see each other.
- Stick to two or three colours. A tight palette looks intentional.
- Choose one strong arrangement instead of several small ones.
- Order for the day before so flowers are at their best on party night.
One Order, Two Occasions
Fall arrangements work for both holidays. A rust, gold and burgundy design suits Thanksgiving dinner and carries into Halloween, which makes it a good choice if you want one arrangement to last across the month.
What Not to Order
- Tall, wide arrangements for a dining table. They crowd the table.
- Heavily scented flowers near food. They compete with the meal.
- Loose, unwrapped stems as a host gift. The host should not have to prepare them.
- High-maintenance plants as a gift. Keep it simple.
